Costa Rica Day 3

hola me llamo es megan.....

Now that that's over, its Sagey, Grace and Abby!! (and Megan)

As per usual, we woke up at the crack of dawn and again were greeted with a delicious breakfast. From there, we made our way to the Barcelona Academy located in San Jose to run a clinic for the local U-13 boys (however there were multiple boys who were younger than 13). We broke up into several groups and constructed our own unique drills to teach 20+ boys. After about 40 minutes, we came together and played a couple small-sided games, and trust us, they definitely gave us a run for our money. For example, La Soapa was megged twice by a 10 year old, which was cause for much celebration. Because of this, we noticed that their finesse was greatly valued. The clinic was full of hard work, laughter, and a greater understanding of soccer being a universal language. Even in the face of a MAJOR language barrier, it was quite easy for us to use body language and hand gestures to demonstrate and communicate what we wanted them to do.

Afterwards, we came back to enjoy some naps, another wholesome lunch, and before you knew it were off again to join Salvador and Veronica at the local youth group they run. Held in a outdoors gymnasium, tucked up in the hills, we came together with about 15-20 kids, some of which we had previously met the day before during food distribution, and enjoyed an evening of games, worship and soccer. We thoroughly enjoyed being able to take time to get to know these kids outside of their home context and connect with them on a spiritual level.

Abby had the opportunity to share her testimony with the group, which then led into Salvador's message on James 4:1-4. Worldliness was the focus of the talk which allowed us to reflect on how our home in the states and the decisions made within our country not only effects us but others, like Costa Rica, as well. Additionally, as outsiders, it is easy for us to contrast our two countries, and yet Salvador pulled us both in and highlighted that no matter where you live, or what you do, we are sinners in a fallen world. In other words, we are more similar than we thought. Sin and struggles just manifest differently.

Unfortunately, when we came back to the villa, we walked into the living room where the news was showing footage of the aftermath of the El Paso shooting. We sat for about 15 minutes surrounding the T.V. before we decided to step out to pray for the families of the those who were affected.

After dinner, we sat together as a team and reflected on the day. This allowed us discuss the differences and similarities we each saw throughout our activities.

That's it from us! We're off to get a full nights sleep before our next game tomorrow at St. Center Aserri!

See you tomorrow!

(P.s. Meggy says the fruit is wicked good and that she saw a parrot. a green parrot. just to clarify)
